Fix: Extra / Ghost OneDrive Showing in File Explorer

If you see an extra OneDrive in File Explorer that opens nothing or looks wrong, follow these steps.

✅ This will not delete your files
✅ This fixes the issue in most cases


Step‑by‑Step Instructions

1. Open OneDrive Settings

  • Look for the cloud icon in the system tray (bottom‑right near the clock)
  • Click the OneDrive cloud icon
  • Click the gear icon (⚙️)
  • Select Settings


2. Unlink OneDrive from Your Computer

  • In the Account tab
  • Click Unlink this PC
  • Confirm when prompted

Your files will stay on your computer and in OneDrive online.

3. Restart Your Computer

  • Save any open work
  • Restart Windows


4. Sign Back Into OneDrive

  • After restart, open OneDrive from the Start menu
  • Sign in with your Microsoft or work account
  • Follow the setup prompts


✅ What You Should See After

  • The extra or “ghost” OneDrive is gone
  • File Explorer shows only one OneDrive
  • Your files sync normally again
