Loss of Office Power

Modified on Wed, Aug 7, 2024 at 11:31 AM

Each branch is equipped with a battery backup / UPS for its network equipment.  This will keep the router and switch online temporarily, until the battery is drained and the UPS shuts down.  While desktop computers would go down during a power outage, the desk phones could remain online briefly for temporary communication.

Lakewood HQ's server room has a backup generator that runs on natural gas, so unless it experiences a mechanical failure, the network equipment in TC1 should never go down.  Other closets are NOT connected to the generator, so the Treehouse/Fishbowl closet that controls the Lakewood branch would not remain online during a significant power outage.

Once power is restored, if the router/switch are coming back up from an offline state (i.e. the UPS has died), it can take about seven minutes for the network to re-connect after the power comes back up.

If power is restored and the branch staff verify that the router/switch appear to be on, there may be an outage with the ISP (AT&T) that needs to be addressed.
