Microsoft Outlook 365 Error Something Went Wrong [1001]



The steps below should help you resolve your Something Went Wrong error when opening Outlook 365.

  1. Sign out (Signing out using Word is the easiest way), close out of all open Microsoft applications; Outlook, Teams, etc via Task Manager.
  2. Open “File Explorer” and navigate to your C:\\users’ “\AppData\Local\Microsoft” folder.
    • Note the “AppData” folder is hidden, you can just append it to your File Explorer navigation bar. Make sure you go to View and check Hidden.
    • Example: “C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\Local\Microsoft
      • Replace (USERNAME) with…. employee username duh.
  3. Move both the “OneAuth” and “IdentityCache” folders to your desktop.
  4. Relaunch Outlook 365 and try to sign in. The Something Went Wrong Error should now be now be fixed.
    • If not, close Outlook and move the “OneAuth” and “IdentityCache” folders back into the Microsoft folder (see Step 2).
    • When it asks if you want to overwrite the “OneAuth” and “IdentityCache” folders, select “NO“.
  5. Relaunch Outlook 365 and sign in. The issue should now be resolved.



For error tag 7ita9 simply open Word, sign out. Sign back in (make sure Outlook is closed).
