Trust Relationship Error at Login

Modified on Wed, Nov 27, 2019 at 3:00 PM

When attempting to log in to a computer, you receive the following error message: "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed." To fix this error, you need to remove the workstation from the ffl.net domain as a local administrator, and rejoin it to the domain.
  1. 1. Log in as local administrator

RDP to the workstation and log in to the local administrator account.

Navigate to computer properties (right-click on Computer and select Properties).
  2. 2. Rejoin Domain

In the System Properties dialog box, navigate to the Computer Name tab and click on the Change... button.

In the "Member of" section, change Domain to Workgroup and enter any name, then click OK.

Bypass the "computer must restart" message (do NOT restart the computer), then go back to the Computer Name tab and click Change...

In the "Member of" section, change Workgroup to Domain and enter ffl.net, then click OK. Enter your credentials at the prompt.

Click OK out of all windows, then click Restart Now.
Upon reboot of the computer, the issue should be resolved and users should be able to log in.
