Publishing an App in Intune

Modified on Mon, Jan 22, 2024 at 12:14 PM

Occasionally, IT may receive a request from a LOB or the PMO to push a new mobile app into Microsoft Intune, so that it will be managed by Intune as our other work apps are (Outlook, Teams, Office@Hand, etc.).

The most recent example was in January 2024, when we published the Blend Loan Officer app.  Below are the steps to publish an app in Intune (https://intune.microsoft.com/):

  1. Go to Apps (left hand column) --> select iOS --> + Add
  2. App type should be "iOS Store App" then click Select
  3. You can search for the app by name in the Apple App Store and it will automatically pull in all the required     information.  Copy this information (app name, description, publisher, etc.) into a separate Notepad file or Sticky Note, as you will need this info later.
  4. On the next screen, under "Available for enrolled users" (as opposed to "Required"), add the Intune Users group
  5. After you Create, it will publish the app and should be available for download/install through the Intune Company Portal ("Comp Portal") app on mobile devices of employees who are enrolled in MS Intune

Repeat these same steps, but select Android and Android Store App in the first two steps.  In Step 3, Intune will NOT automatically pull in the app info from the Google Play Store, so you will need to manually paste in the required info using the info you copied in Step 3 above.  Proceed to Steps 4 and 5 and then the app will also become available for Android devices.
