Checking for network/bandwidth issues at specific locations

Modified on Tue, Aug 26, 2025 at 10:23 AM

Occasionally, employees may report network connectivity latency when working in the office.  We can use our PRTG monitoring system to check bandwidth usage at specific branches/office locations.

  • Log into PRTG (website: https://wcleprtg02/, or install the PRTG desktop app)
  • Click on the Devices tab at the top
  • Look under FFL (or Member Banks) --> Branches --> select the desired location --> click on the location's switch (IP address usually ends with .2)
  • You will see all the ports on that office's network switch
  • Look for the port labeled "(Branch) Traffic" or "Uplink" and click on that port
  • Go to Graphs --> you can see in real time if their bandwidth is high/unusual
  • You can also look at specific network ports on the switch if a specific user is reporting a certain issue

Note on the graphs: Traffic In and Traffic Out are the opposite of what you might think.  It is traffic relative to the switchport, not to the computer

  • Traffic In (of the switchport) = to the network (uploading)
  • Traffic Out (of the switchport) = to the computer (downloading)

AT&T also has a method to check bandwidth usage on their site, but it is a PITA to use.  Consult Jerry if you need further assistance or need him to review that tool as well.

There is documentation for each circuit size by site so we can tell what the total MB connection is at each location.  To be uploaded here soon.
