According to FMHC's Computer Hardware/Software Inventory Standard, when “a computer…is deemed no longer sufficiently functional to be used on the FMHC network,” we will proceed with the disposal process.
It is IT's general policy to refresh end user laptops and desktops on a regular basis according to the following schedule:
- Laptops to be refreshed every three years
- Desktops to be refreshed every five years
Lansweeper is used to track the age of computers on the corporate network, where we can tell the date of acquisition and warranty expiration (we can also confirm when the device is out of support on the vendor’s website – Dell or Lenovo). See All Workstations report and sort by PurchaseDate.
The EOL process is triggered by the acquisition date and we aim to replace equipment in age order, although emergency replacements take precedence.
At the point of disposal, the IT staff member assigned will proceed with the necessary steps according to the Inventory Standard and the Computer Deployment Procedure for wiping and decommissioning.
